OUR STORY

The vision for The Ponds was born in 1995, out of a passion for youth sports and the desire to have fun with real estate by local businessman Rob Perry.  His goal was to establish a first-class facility in the Milwaukee metro area—one that combined learning through sports with a creative business approach.

The vision became reality on July 15, 1998, when the Ponds of Brookfield officially opened its doors as a cutting-edge venue for hockey and ice sports. From the start, the facility quickly gained a reputation for unique programming and strong partnerships that set it apart in the greater Milwaukee area.

A major renovation modernized the facility in 2008, with new dasher boards, seamless glass, improved lighting, a modern sound system, new dehumidification system and new ice resurfacer—setting a higher standard for ice quality and the overall game-day experience.

In the years that followed, continued improvements focused on quality, innovation, and atmosphere. A new floor system installed in 2017 enhanced ice quality and seasonal flexibility, while a state-of-the-art chiller added in 2020 ensured year-round ice performance and precise temperature control.

Beyond the ice itself, The Ponds developed a bold and distinctive identity. In 2019, internationally renowned artist Leon Keer created immersive 3D anamorphic artwork throughout the arena, adding a cultural and artistic dimension that makes The Ponds truly one of a kind.

In 2021, Greg Copeland took over leadership of the Ponds and is the rink’s current owner. He has continued the arena’s long-standing commitment to innovation, quality, and community engagement. Under Greg’s leadership, the arena remains a hub for youth and adult hockey including the Wisconsin Windigo, UW–Milwaukee and Marquette University ACHA teams, the Elmbrook Youth Hockey Association and the Brookfield Stars and Glacier high school hockey teams.

Today, the Ponds continues to lead in the ice arena industry, offering creative programming, unique experiences, and a commitment to enhancing the hockey and ice sports experience for all who walk through its doors.
